IN THIS WEEK 02 MONDAY 24, TUESDAY 25

Interior design students blending research and creativity with a client-focused mindset.

This week, I had the privilege of taking my Diploma of Interior Design students on an inspiring two-day workshop at the Blum Showroom in Mount Waverley. Working in groups, students practiced responding to a client brief for a current North Fitzroy site. They explored kitchen zones—Consumables, Non-Consumables, Cleaning, Preparation, and Cooking—while developing technical and functional designs.

The workshop guided them from theory to 2D layouts, refining ideas into 3D scale models, and finally creating 1:1 scale concepts. This hands-on journey allowed them to experience the true sense of design reality, blending research and creativity with a client-focused mindset.

A special thank you to Tommy Arvanitis, Commercial Sales Consultant at Blum Australia, for his exceptional support and guidance throughout the workshop. We also extend our gratitude to Karen Montgomery, who delivered an engaging and insightful presentation that inspired the students and elevated the experience.

Additionally, heartfelt thanks to the Interior Design North Fitzroy project team, led by Joshua Reitano, Kathleen Estoesta, and Amy Lindner, for their excellence in providing knowledge and support to the students. Their contributions were integral to enhancing the learning experience and fostering a deeper understanding of real-world design applications.

The next step is to translate this workshop into a 3D virtual platform, digital twin technology, allowing students to simulate their designs in a fully immersive environment. Such innovations bridge the gap between education and industry, preparing students for the future of design.

Cross-collaboration: If you would like to contribute your ideas in curating industry projects for future students, please contact our team for collaboration.
